A significant fire broke out early Saturday morning in the vehicle parking area of the Cantt railway station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, destroying at least 200 two-wheelers. Dramatic visuals captured the blaze raging in the parking lot as fire brigade and police officials worked diligently to extinguish the flames.
Around 12 fire brigade units, along with teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local law enforcement, responded swiftly to the scene. Video footage showed police officers deploying hoses and combating the fire, while large plumes of smoke filled the air.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries related to the incident. Initial investigations indicate that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit.
CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh confirmed the cause, stating, "There were some bicycles that also burned. We are conducting further investigations into the matter." Most of the vehicles affected belonged to railway employees, officials noted.
One railway employee recounted his experience, saying, "I parked my bike around midnight. A bystander informed me that a short circuit had occurred earlier at 11 pm but was fixed. A few hours later, a passenger alerted me to the fire. I quickly moved my bike to the other side, but moments later, the flames spread through the parking lot."
After approximately two hours of effort, firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control.
